Uganda Global Health & Education Immersion Program (UGHEIP)
Program Overview
The Uganda Global Health & Education Immersion Program (UGHEIP) is a structured 12-day international experiential learning program designed for nursing, pre-med, public health, education, and social work students. The program provides supervised community engagement, cultural immersion, and applied global health experience in partnership with a primary and middle school and community outreach initiatives in rural Uganda.
Host Organization
UGHEIP is hosted by a U.S.-based nonprofit organization led by a licensed nurse and educator with active operations in Uganda, including a functioning school serving day and boarding students.
Program Objectives
Participants will:
Gain hands-on exposure to community-based healthcare delivery.
Understand public health challenges in low-resource settings.
Participate in school health education and outreach initiatives.
Develop cultural competence and global awareness.
Engage in reflective learning and interdisciplinary teamwork
Activities May Include:
Community health screenings (non-invasive, supervised)
School-based hygiene and nutrition education
Maternal-child health workshops
Classroom teaching assistance
STEM and English language enrichment
Village outreach and home visits (observational)
Public health discussions with local leaders
Supervision & Safety
On-site supervision by healthcare professionals and school leadership.
